Reflections in Sound and Picture

3–4 minutes

read

Our lives leave traces in pictures, recordings, and the small moments we save. These reflections help Wildflower tell your wonderful person’s story, and gathering them can become a meaningful, even uplifting, part of remembering.

Beyond The Frame: Thinking Broadly About What To Include in Your Story

There’s More Than Pictures to Any Story

When collecting reflections, consider all the ways memories might be preserved:

  • Digital Pictures
  • Scrapbooks / Physical Pictures
  • Movies
  • Old Voicemails
  • Journals, publications, letters, and other writings

Stories Include People, Places, and Things

Stories are more than faces. Reflections can be anything that brings your wonderful person to mind. You might use a picture of a family pet, a cherished heirloom, a favorite car, or a frequented hangout. These images can be powerful reminders of a life well‑lived and well‑loved.

Searching for Reflections: Where To Find Special Moments

Friends & Family

You likely have special moments captured on your phone or sitting in a frame on the wall — and so do others. Reach out and share the search for reflections with friends and family; this collaboration can be a joyful experience as you collectively remember those special moments.

Social Media

Consider looking at social media feeds to find pictures, movies, and more. Common platforms include:

  • Reddit
  • Yelp (helpful if they ran a business)
  • Amazon (check for their product reviews)

These feeds often have contributions from friends and family so be sure to include them as well.

Business Pages

If your wonderful person ran a business — even a small one — they may have posted pictures or writings that recall special times. In addition to common social media sites, Yelp can be a surprising source of meaningful reflections.

Professional, Academic, or Specialty Associations

Our lives connect us to many different communities through career, school, and the groups we care about. These associations may hold reflections of your wonderful person, and reaching out can uncover meaningful moments you might not have known existed. Examples include:

  • Trade Unions (SEIU, AFL-CIO)
  • Alumni Organizations
  • Professional Associations (AFI, AMA, AIGA, FPSB, NEDA)
  • Community Organizations (Elks, Shriners, Eagles, Boys & Girls Club)
  • Nonprofit Agencies (Habitat for Humanity, food banks)

Online Shopping Reviews

If your wonderful person did a lot of online shopping consider looking for their reviews on major sites like Amazon and Etsy. You might discover shots they took wearing a favorite shirt or at home with a new treasure.

Web Archives

Visit your preferred search engine (Duck Duck Go, Bing, Google, etc.) and try a simple image search. You might find pictures taken at their job, community events, or by long‑lost friends. If you plan to use any found images in a public slideshow, be sure to ask permission first.

Related Photos

Despite all the photos, recordings, and writings we have, some things simply never get captured. Wildflower can incorporate photos that refer to meaningful places or things using specially curated selections from collections spanning the globe and nearly every interest.

Our key partner, Unsplash, provides authentic and properly licensed photographs that evoke special times, places, or themes. For example, if your wonderful person loved hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, we can include Unsplash images that recall that magic.
